Speech buddies videos!
After watching the speech buddy videos for chapters 7 and 8, I learned a few tips that I think we all could deem useful to all of us who are trying to improve our future speeches. I think one of the most useful things that was discussed is the use of support; that is something I have lacked. Facts, statistics, and sources always help when trying to convince your audience to believe what you are saying. Another aspect that was discussed is credibility. Are your sources credible? That is something that we all can put into account during our research phase. We can compare sources and see which information is more credible or provides more statistics to better support our argument:)

Self Evaluation
I believe, strongly, that I am a great public speaker. My biggest issue, during our cultural artifact speeches, was preparation. I knew my topic, felt confident, but my speech lacked organization. I was very repetitious, and rambled instead of emphasizing the main points that I had come up with.
As far as self evaluation goes, after I finished my speech, I was relieved, but I felt very unconfident because I failed it overall organization. Normally, I can present a speech very well by just writing out a few points and consistently running through things in my head. This time around, I prepared more than I usually would, but still didn’t prepare enough. I loved my topic and knew that I could answer any questions about my topic, but had a pretty difficult time displaying this to the audience. Time management was a big issue for me; I went over the five minute time frame by nearly two minutes. I think the biggest thing for me was I was panicking when I saw the time cards, and kept saying things over in just different words.
As far as positive factors go, I thought a good thing was that I didn’t rely on my note card at all. I felt very good about my powerpoint, and I feel that I emphasized some of my points just by making the audience interested with the good use of pictures. I felt I gained a lot of people attention, but failed to keep them interested, in my next speech, I will try to focus on this more than anything else because the audience is who you are trying to inform or explain something to and without keeping their attention, your speech will be a failure.
If I had to put a grade letter on my speech it would have to be a C. I didn’t feel very confident when I was finished with my speech, relieved but nothing else. I will definitely be preparing better on the next speech and planning out my word choice much better.
